Stock Market Holiday: Holiday in BSE and NSE today, there will be no trading in shares, know the reason for the holiday today?

Business Desk – Stock Market Holiday: Today, on May 1, the stock markets of the country will remain closed. The reason for this is ‘Maharashtra Day’. On this occasion, equity trading will remain closed on both BSE and NSE. This holiday is included in the holiday calendar of both the stock markets.

It is worth noting that apart from every Saturday and Sunday, the stock markets also remain closed on some other special occasions and government holidays. ‘Labor Day’ (International Workers’ Day) and ‘Buddha Purnima’ are also celebrated on 1 May.

As per the information available on BSE, trading will remain closed for Equity Segment, Equity Derivatives Segment, Currency Derivatives Segment, NDS-RST and Tri-Party Repo Segment on May 1. However, the evening session (5:00 PM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM) will be open for Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) and Commodity Derivatives segments.

Similarly, trading in commodity derivatives on NSE will remain closed in the morning session, but will resume in the evening session (5:00 pm to 11:30 pm/11:55 pm). Meanwhile, trading in equity, equity derivatives, mutual funds, securities lending and borrowing schemes, currency derivatives, corporate bonds, new debt segments, negotiated trade reporting platforms and interest rate derivatives segments will remain closed.

Markets will remain closed again on May 28

After this, the stock markets will remain closed again on Thursday, May 28. The reason for this closure will be ‘Bakrid’. There will be no trading in any segment. Except in the evening sessions of Commodity Derivatives and EGR segments on BSE and Commodity Derivatives segment on NSE.

On the occasion of Diwali, Muhurat trading will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Muhurta trading timings will be announced later. On Thursday, April 30, the Sensex closed at 76,913.50, down 582.86 points or 0.75 percent. Nifty fell 180.10 points or 0.74 percent to close at 23,997.55. The stock market witnessed a decline due to high crude oil prices, weakness in global markets and selling pressure from foreign investors.
