Credit Card | The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a major relief for millions of credit card users. The new rules will give consumers more flexibility, lower penalties and some additional facilities. Especially for those who occasionally miss due dates, these changes are going to be beneficial.
As per the new rules, there will now be a ‘grace period’ of three days after the due date to pay the credit card bill. That is, if your due date is 5th, you can make the payment till 8th without paying any late fee. This will prevent you from paying huge fines for small mistakes. Credit Card
Apart from this, there has also been an important change in the mode of levying late charges. Now the penalty will not be levied on the entire bill amount, but only on the outstanding amount. This will reduce financial stress on customers and make payments more convenient. However, if the bill is not paid after three days, it will be considered delinquent and may negatively affect your credit score.
Another important decision RBI has taken is relief for distressed customers. Banks will now be able to provide assistance during natural calamities on their own without waiting for the customer’s application. This can provide immediate relief to people in financial distress during times of crisis.
These new credit card rules are effective from April 1, 2027, while the disaster- assistance rules are to be implemented from July 1, 2026. These changes are expected to make credit card usage more secure, flexible and customer-centric
