Dehradun: Graphic Era Deemed University has once again proved its creativity and teamwork by setting a new record in the Asia Book of Records. The university prepared 554 different types of parathas in just one hour and 28 minutes, making history in the culinary world.
The record was achieved by the Hospitality Management Department, where a joint team of students and faculty worked together. The achievement was officially recorded in the presence of Anand Vedant, a representative of the Asia Book of Records, who certified the feat.
Variety of parathas
The event showcased a wide range of flavors:
Traditional Uttarakhandi parathas made with ingredients like gahat dal (Horse gram), jhangora (Barnyard millet), and kafuli (A traditional Uttarakhand dish made from leafy greens (usually spinach or fenugreek leaves).
Popular Indian fillings such as paneer, Sattu (Roasted gram flour (powder made from roasted chickpeas or other pulses), peas, and radish.
Fusion flavors like mawa-gulkand (milk solids with rose petal preserve), banana-jaggery, and tamarind-onion, which caught everyone’s attention.
Healthy options including multigrain, gluten-free, diabetic-friendly, and high-fiber parathas.
Colorful parathas made with beetroot, spinach, and turmeric, adding vibrancy to the event.
The variety reflected India’s rich food culture and the innovative spirit of the students.
Voices from the university
Dr. Kamal Ghanshala, Chairman of Graphic Era Group of Institutions, said the achievement is a prime example of Indian culture, food diversity, and youthful energy.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh highlighted that food is not just about taste but also about culture and unity, which this event beautifully showcased.
Dr. Amar Dabral, Head of the Hospitality Department, and Dr. Ravish Kukreti, Assistant Professor, explained that the effort involved extensive research, innovation, and integration of culinary traditions from different regions of India.

This achievement is not only a culinary milestone but also a cultural celebration. It shows how food can bring people together and highlight diversity. For students, the event was a chance to learn teamwork, discipline, and event management.
