Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced a huge blow as the most popular royals have been exposed. A new television programme on Channel 5 will disclose that the Prince and Princess of Wales have been chosen by the public as the two most popular royals - though viewers must wait until broadcast to discover who claims the top position.

William and Catherine, who wed in 2011, are separated by merely one point in the survey, according to the 5 documentary, The Royal Popularity List. At the bottom of the list of 14 royals was Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The former Duke of York, who was stripped of his titles by the King over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, was ranked the 14th most popular royal in the documentary, which conducted its research through a YouGov poll of over 2,000 British adults. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were embarrassingly not far behind him in 11th and 12th positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Andrew's former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has likewise faced criticism for her connections to the paedophile financier, was the only other person below Meghan and Harry as she was ranked 13th most popular.

The documentary, which will examine "who we'd proudly put on a tea towel - and who we'd rather banish to the Tower", discovered that both Catherine and William are perceived as "warm and hardworking".

They are followed by the Princess Royal in third place, meaning the King occupies fourth position.

The poll revealed Anne was regarded as "strong, dependable and hardworking," and is widely admired for her straightforward approach, honesty and dedication to duty.

Charles, who ascended to the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, is regarded as hardworking, reliable and progressive, according to the programme.

Coming in at number five is Zara Tindall, the daughter of Anne, while the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh occupy sixth and seventh place respectively.

The Queen takes eighth position in the poll, followed by Princess Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie.

The Royal Popularity List will air on 5 at 9pm on Saturday.
