OTT scam

There are several channels available on Telegram, which claim to offer subscription to OTT apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Zee5 and Sony Live for Rs 299. These channels are run by cyber criminals. Cybercriminals claim to offer subscriptions to OTT apps and demand personal information from customers. It also includes e-mail address, phone number and bank details. After sharing this information, cybercriminals send a link to your mobile, asking you to make a payment. (Photo Courtesy – Pinterest)

When you click on the link to make a payment, the money in your account disappears. You are not given subscription to any OTT apps, but still the money is deducted from the account. The same is happening on the messaging platform WhatsApp as well.

This is not the first time. Earlier also many groups and pages were scamming people on Facebook and Instagram. People have been cheated in the name of subscription to OTT apps. People easily fall into the net of hackers in the name of offering premium subscription of OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Jiohotstar at cheap rates.

Different types of groups are active on platforms like WhatsApp-Telegram. Fake but attractive messages are conveyed to people through these groups. But it is wise to ignore this message.

• Do not click on any link in the message.
• Do not share your personal information and bank details with anyone. .
• Buy subscription to OTT apps from the official app only.
• Only telecom companies offer OTT bundles with their select plans.
