AAP government’s big bet before elections, 15% increase in minimum wages in Punjab

On the occasion of International Labor Day (May 1), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made a big announcement for the workers of the state. According to this, there will be an increase in the minimum wages of the workers of Punjab. After this announcement, the Punjab government will increase the wages of the workers of the state by 15 percent. CM Mann said in the Punjab Assembly on Friday, ‘I announce a 15% increase in their minimum wages.’

 

According to CM Mann, this increase will be equally applicable to all workers in both government and non-government sectors. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann came out of the assembly and said, ‘Today is laborers’ day, hence the laborers should get a gift.’

 

 

 

 

The demand was pending for 13 years

Addressing the Assembly, Chief Minister Mann said that the minimum wages have been revised in Punjab after a long gap of 13 years. He called it a revolutionary step towards the economic strengthening of the working class of Punjab.

 

This decision of the Bhagwant Mann government will directly increase the wages of lakhs of unskilled and skilled workers of Punjab. They hope to get great relief from this in the times of inflation. At present the daily minimum wage of workers in Punjab is Rs 438, on monthly basis it is Rs 11,389. According to the new rules, unskilled workers will get Rs 518.69 per day, which will be Rs 13486 per month.

 

 

 

 

Congress had demanded to increase wages

Earlier, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa had demanded from the Aam Aadmi Party government to increase the wages of unskilled workers. Bajwa said that if the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who has called a one-day special session of the Assembly on May 1 on Labor Day, is serious about the working class, then it should announce an increase in wages. Bajwa had demanded to increase the wages of unskilled workers from Rs 400 to Rs 600 per day.
