Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag said after the defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 43rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Friday (May 1) that he could have bowled better in the middle overs. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, RR scored a huge score of 225 runs for 6 wickets, thanks to the half-century of Parag (90 runs in 50 balls) and finally the brilliant innings of Donovan Ferreira (47 not out in 14 balls) but it proved to be insufficient.
The half-centuries of KL Rahul (75 runs in 40 balls) and Pathum Nissanka (62 runs in 33 balls) overshadowed Parag’s brilliant innings. DC defeated RR by 7 wickets with 5 balls remaining on the basis of a brilliant start with the stormy innings of Player of the Match Rahul and Nissanka (62 runs). RR had also put 228 runs on the board in the last match in Jaipur but Sunrisers Hyderabad had easily achieved this target.
If I don’t get 2 points, my run means nothing – Parag
After the defeat in Jaipur despite scoring more than 220 for the second consecutive match, Parag said, ‘I thought it was a good score. A score around 200 was fine. We could have bowled better in the middle overs.
Parag left the field due to injury. He said about his injury, ‘Hopefully it is not too serious. Has a hamstring injury. I will take a break for a week, then everything will be fine. He said about his innings, ‘I don’t need to answer the critics.’ Parag looked a little emotional while saying this. He said that my job is only to get 2 points, if we cannot get those 2 points then my run has no meaning.
