This comic gangster role played by him in the film ‘Welcome’ is very popular among the audience even today, but very few people know that the roots of this character are connected to an old role of his in the 90s.
‘Majnu Bhai’s idea came from ‘Awaragi’
Recently, a fan had shared the famous ghazal of the film ‘Chamkte Chand Ko…’ on the Responding to this post, Anil Kapoor said- “Awaraagi may not have been my most popular film, but this character never left my heart. Years later, the same character returned as the inspiration behind ‘Majnu Bhai’, only in a lighter style… the way of shrugging the shoulders, the expressions, the madness, first in the world of Mahesh Bhatt, later in the style of Anees Bazmi. The circle of life is complete.”
Journey from serious character to comic icon
In ‘Awaargi’, Anil Kapoor played a serious and deep character, while in ‘Welcome’ the same emotion was presented in a light-hearted and funny manner. This is the reason why the character of ‘Majnu Bhai’ settled in the hearts of the audience and with time it became a cult character.
‘Welcome’ became a superhit comedy film
Big actors like Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal and Firoz Khan were seen in ‘Welcome’, released in 2007. The unique blend of comedy and crime made this film a huge success at the box office and even today it is included in the audience’s favorite films.
There is good news for the fans of the franchise that work on ‘Welcome 4’ is going on. According to reports, the script of the film is almost ready and there are plans to recast the characters of Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal along with Anil Kapoor.
