There may be an increase in food bills in restaurants and hotels.
The increase in the price of commercial gas cylinders used in hotels and restaurants has dealt a serious blow to the already stressed hotel industry and there is a possibility of the situation worsening further. According to experts, common people may now have to spend more money in hotels and restaurants. Due to increase in the price of commercial gas cylinders, food at these places may become expensive. There is a possibility of seeing a jump of up to 15 percent in prices. Industry organizations have demanded immediate intervention from the government and withdrawal of the increase in prices. Let us also tell you what kind of report has come out.
Increase may be up to 15 percent
Pradeep Shetty, vice-president of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), said that due to the recent increase in LPG prices, a 10 to 15 percent increase in the prices of the dishes served seems almost certain. But even this increase may not be able to fully compensate the cost. He said that due to three times increase in the price of commercial cylinder weighing 19 kg by a total of Rs 1,332.50, the operating cost of the industry has reached unprecedented levels. This is when businesses are already facing challenges such as supply disruptions, limited operational capacity and weak cash flows.
Pressure on the industry is increasing
According to Shetty, many establishments are already working with limited timings, limited menu and alternative fuel system. In such a situation, the latest price increase will put pressure on their margins and operations may become unstable. He cautioned that many establishments have already been temporarily closed and this new price increase could further accelerate closures and job cuts. In such a situation, there is a need for the government to intervene on this front. Otherwise, even worse consequences may be seen in the coming days.
How expensive is commercial LPG?
On Friday, a huge increase of Rs 933 was announced in the prices of commercial LPG cylinders, which has created a wave of concern among restaurants, roadside food shops, caterers, bakeries and cloud kitchens – small businesses etc. For many of these businesses, cooking gas is not just another input cost. This is their whole business. Now the price of a commercial cylinder in Delhi has come down to Rs 3,071.50. The special thing is that the process of increase in the price of commercial gas cylinders, which started from December 2025, has not stopped. Since then, the price of commercial gas cylinders has increased 7 times in 6 months. Increase was seen twice in the month of March i.e. on 1st and 7th March. Since then, an increase of Rs 1,491 has been seen in the prices of commercial gas. This means that the price of commercial gas cylinder has seen an increase of 94 percent in Delhi.
