The Indian cricket team has suffered two major setbacks in the fast bowling unit. According to reports, Akash Deep and Harshit Rana will be out of the home Test series against Afghanistan and the tour of United Kingdom due to injuries. According to BCCI sources, the rehabilitation process of both the bowlers is going in the right direction, but it will take time to regain match fitness. The Duleep Trophy to be held in August seems to be a more likely time for his comeback.

Let us tell you, Akash Deep is recovering from a back injury. At the same time, Harshit Rana had undergone surgery due to knee ligament injury just before the T20 World Cup. Both the players are part of Kolkata Knight Riders and have missed the entire season of IPL 2026. A BCCI source said that strengthening exercises are going on for both of them. After this, return to play protocols related to jogging, sprint and skills will have to be completed. Due to which he will not be ready for Afghanistan and UK tour.

All three formats will be affected

Akash Deep is known for red ball cricket. His recent performance for Team India has been quite good. He did wonders by taking 12 wickets against England in Birmingham last year. In such a situation, the team will miss him in the Afghanistan Test. Whereas, Harshit Rana plays all three formats. In 2025, he became India's most successful bowler by taking 26 wickets in 14 ODI matches. In such a situation, his injury in T20 and ODI matches is a big blow for the team.
