Synopsis

Raja Shivaji has achieved a phenomenal opening at the Marathi box office, grossing ₹11 crore on its release day. The Marathi version alone contributed ₹8 crore net, surpassing previous records set by popular films. Strong advance bookings and high occupancy rates across Maharashtra indicate significant audience enthusiasm for the historical epic.

The historical epic Raja Shivaji stormed into theatres on Maharashtra Day, delivering a phenomenal start at the domestic box office and setting new benchmarks for Marathi cinema. Headlined and helmed by Riteish Deshmukh, the film made an immediate impact, amassing a remarkable ₹11 crore on its opening day across all versions.

According to Sacnilk.com, the Marathi version alone contributed a substantial ₹8 crore net on Friday, propelling the film to the top tier of highest opening-day collections in the Marathi film industry. What makes this achievement even more striking is that the film reached this milestone through just 1,941 screenings, while maintaining a robust average occupancy of nearly 68 percent. This indicates strong audience enthusiasm and widespread acceptance across both multiplexes and single-screen cinemas throughout Maharashtra.

The impressive debut did not come as a surprise, as the film had already generated significant buzz prior to its release through exceptional advance bookings. Pre-release ticket sales closed at approximately ₹5.14 crore gross, with the Marathi version accounting for nearly ₹4.25 crore gross, translating to about ₹3.60 crore net. These figures had already hinted at a powerful opening, which the film ultimately exceeded with ease.

With this performance, Raja Shivaji comfortably overtook the long-standing first-day records set by popular Marathi films like Sairat and Timepass 2, both of which had earned around ₹3.60 crore net on their respective opening days. The new release has now established itself as a record-breaker within its regional market.

The dominant contribution from the Marathi version played a key role in the film’s success, driven by strong occupancy levels across the state. Meanwhile, the Hindi-dubbed version added approximately ₹3.35 crore to the overall earnings, pushing the total collection beyond the ₹10 crore mark and settling at an estimated ₹11.35 crore on day one. Early projections had suggested that the Hindi version would be crucial in helping the film cross this milestone, and it delivered as expected.

Apart from its commercial success, the film also boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, featuring notable names such as Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh. Adding further star power, Salman Khan makes a special appearance, enhancing the film’s overall appeal.

With such a powerful opening and widespread audience interest, Raja Shivaji has set the stage for a strong theatrical run in the days ahead.
