Bengaluru: Rainfall in the city on Friday evening led to the uprooting of more than eight trees in different areas, though no casualties were reported, officials said.
According to the Greater Bengaluru Authority helpline, trees and branches fell in parts of JP Nagar 6th Phase, Basavanagudi, Rajajinagar, Doreswamy Palya, RT Nagar and Koramangala. Forest wing officials carried out clearance operations.
Over 380 trees affected in recent daysOfficials said heavy rain on Wednesday night had already caused large-scale damage, with 376 trees and 981 branches falling across the city. On Friday alone, more than eight trees were uprooted.
So far, 318 trees and 799 branches have been cleared, and removal work is continuing.
Contractors warned over responsibilityAuthorities stated that several complaints were received from the public regarding fallen trees and branches. Contractors have been directed to be present at sites along with tree removal teams. Officials warned that contractors would be held directly responsible for any delay in clearing operations.
Weather forecastThe India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in Bengaluru for the next two days. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 and 40 kmph, with maximum temperatures likely to touch 36 degrees Celsius.
Due to rainfall over the past three days, the maximum temperature dropped from 36°C to 34°C on Friday.
Rain disrupts normal lifeRain continued in parts of the city on Friday, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in several areas. Commuters faced delays during evening hours, and two-wheeler riders were seen travelling in the rain.
Heavy rainfall was recorded in areas including MG Road, KR Market, Majestic, Shantinagar, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Bommanahalli, Vidyapeetha, Banashankari, Yelahanka, Sadashivanagar, Vijayanagar, Indiranagar, Nagarbhavi and Basavanagudi.
Rainfall dataVannarapet recorded the highest rainfall at 3.1 cm on Friday. Other areas recorded:
- Pattabhiramanagar: 2.8 cm
- Doresanipalya: 2.7 cm
- Koramangala: 1.9 cm
- Doddabidarakallu: 1.7 cm
- Bommanahalli and Konanakunte: 1.7 cm each
- Hemmigepura: 1.5 cm
- Vishweshwarapura: 1.3 cm
- Vidyapeetha: 1.1 cm
- Arekere: 1 cm
Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police Karthik Reddy has written to the Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, requesting removal of weak and dangerous trees. Traffic police have identified 404 such trees and branches across the city.
A list of vulnerable locations has been submitted, seeking urgent action to ensure public safety and smooth traffic movement.
