Bengaluru: A 15-year-old boy died after being hit by a private bus while crossing the Hennur–Bagalur main road on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Varun, a Class 9 student. The bus driver, Imran Khan, has been taken into custody.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 11:30 am near Zhat Hotel in Geddalahalli. Varun was walking to fetch drinking water when he attempted to cross the road. A private bus coming at high speed from the Hennur side allegedly hit him, leading to his death.
The body has been shifted to Yelahanka Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered at the Hennur Traffic Police Station.
Protest and traffic disruptionFollowing the incident, family members and local residents staged a protest by blocking the Hennur–Bagalur main road. The road blockade led to traffic congestion in the area, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Locals blame road worksLocal residents alleged that ongoing white-topping work at the accident spot contributed to the mishap. They said traffic congestion due to the works forces drivers to speed through the stretch, increasing the risk of accidents.
Residents also pointed out that the drinking water facility is located outside the residential area, forcing children to cross the busy road to fetch water. Varun had reportedly gone to an RO plant to bring water as his father was unwell.
