A powerful comeback with the bat couldn’t hide the disappointment for Riyan Parag as Rajasthan Royals fell short against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026.
Playing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday, the 24 years old RR skipper delivered his best performance of the season, scoring an impressive 90 runs off 50 balls. It was a true captain’s innings under pressure but it was not enough to prevent a seven-wicket defeat. Despite returning to form, Riyan Parag looked visibly disappointed after the match.
When asked about recent criticism, especially following controversy around his off-field behaviour (vaping), Riyan Parag made it clear that outside opinions don’t drive him. He emphasised that his primary responsibility is to help his team win and personal milestones mean little if the result does not go their way.
The young captain had recently been in the spotlight after being seen using an e-cigarette during a match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. The incident led to a fine of 25% of his match fee and it reportedly sparked further discussions within IPL authorities. Along with that, his performance had also been questioned as he had managed only 117 runs in nine matches before this game, with the highest score of 29.
However, Riyan Parag responded strongly on the field. Supported by Donovan Ferreira, who smashed an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls, Rajasthan Royals posted a massive total of 225/6.

Still, Delhi Capitals chased down the target comfortably. Contributions from KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka helped seal the win with five balls remaining.
In the end, Riyan Parag’s message was simple, individual success means nothing without a team victory.
