After so many warnings from so many people, the fear became reality with the two terror attacks on innocent Jewish men in North London this week. And almost as the suspect was being bundled away in a police van, the usual platitudes were being trotted out by our politicians. You know the ones: "An attack on one of us, is an attack on us all," and "we stand with our Jewish citizens" and "our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the whole community".
The usual performative nonsense which counts for absolutely nothing. If the deaths of two worshippers at the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester hadn't been enough, within the space of just over a month there were attacks on two synagogues, a Jewish charity building and on ambulances run by another Jewish charity that were burnt out in the same area.
Again, after each of these the same bland assurances were made. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood pledged an additional £25million for extra security and police patrols in that area and others that are home to a high percentage of Jewish people - which surely indicated not enough had been spent in the first place.
But how can anyone be surprised by this attack as anti-Semitism is indulged or ignored by so many in this country. For instance, the Government has still not proscribed the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), despite so many other countries such as the US, Australia and Canada doing so, as well as the European Union.
The Government waffle on about necessary legislation needing to be introduced, but it is perhaps telling they acted at speed to recognise a state of Palestine but have failed consistently to ban the IRGC.
We also have a state broadcaster that transmitted one act at the Glastonbury festival last year openly calling for Israeli soldiers to be killed. Police subsequently said they would "review the BBC footage" - what on earth for? Chord changes? The intent was clear - but decided to take no action.
And, if you've also allowed two-and-a-half years of demonstrations in which some of the crowds have openly called for Jews to be wiped off the earth and have carried banners with Swastikas, again what do you really expect?
The harsh truth is the politicians' words are as empty as their efforts to stop this, yet there is one simple measure that could be brought in almost overnight.
After the tragedy of the Southport killings, much of the nation was caught up in the so-called "summer riots." In turn, that saw people who broke the law and attacked asylum seekers' hotels, the police, mosques or were seen to incite racial hatred put before the court at breakneck speed, dealt with and in many cases sent to jail.
It worked then and it could work now.
But the stark reality is that in the near two years that have passed since that widespread disorder, Sir Keir Starmer has lost any shred of power he might once have possessed and now cannot dare risk alienating any element of his voter - or even MPs' - base.
Instead he is reduced to describing the attack as "utterly appalling."
Yes, Prime Minister, you are right. Almost as appalling as the utter lack of any action from your supine administration.
There really is only one word for this!A triumph. That is the only word to describe the outcome of King Charles's visit to the US and it was accomplished with his usual understated, distinctly British style.
Can you imagine any other world leader making gentle digs at President Trump, such as suggesting Americans would be speaking French without the UK's assistance or teasing him about the new White House ballroom, with Trump's only reaction being to laugh?
But surely his greatest achievement was to make First Lady Melania Trump to start giggling, and even laugh out loud - something I cannot recall ever having seen before.
Small mercies for StarmerJust imagine if Keir Starmer had eaten cake. Then he'd be in real trouble...
How is this allowed? It is close to barbaric that in most of the country women must suffer three miscarriages before the NHS starts a full investigation into possible causes and the campaign urging specialist help is provided after the first loss deserves to be implemented as soon as possible.
Even Tony Blair gets itWhen even Tony Blair says Britain's benefits system has spiralled out of control and needs an "emergency handbrake" applied urgently, you know it has to be bad.
That was one of the recommendations from the Tony Blair institute and with SIX MILLION workers earning less than many jobless claimants, it's impossible to disagree.
Fancy squaring this circle for us, Spencer? As the Greens have said they would look at legalising Class A drugs, including heroin, the views concerning alcohol expressed by Hannah Spencer, who won the Gorton and Denton by-election for the party in February are quite bizarre. She has moaned "you can smell the alcohol when people are in between votes."
Under the Greens therefore, you can crack on with the cocaine but perish the idea you might fancy a pint!
Maybe Miliband can answer this for usIt is reported Ed Miliband will introduce a law that will outlaw the sale of traditional tumble dryers as part of his drive towards net -zero. Evidently heat pump alternatives are in some way better for the planet and this move would also align us with the rest of Europe.
Is there no end to which the eco-zealot will not stoop to pander to his misplaced obsession?
Oh, and remembering he was discovered a few years ago to have TWO kitchens, I wonder if he's been able to get down to just one fridge?
