Taking major action, Delhi Police has busted an interstate car theft gang. The Crime Branch team has arrested 10 members of this gang, from whom many luxury cars including 31 Fortuner have been recovered. The arrested accused are accused of selling stolen vehicles by changing their chassis numbers.
DCP Crime Branch Aditya Gautam said, ‘The Inter-State Cell of our Crime Branch has got a major success by busting the entire gang of vehicle thieves. The gang would steal vehicles on demand, tamper with their chassis numbers, and then re-register them using fake and fake documents, after which they would sell them across the country.
In this operation, the team of Inter-State Cell, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Dhaka, ASI Praveen and Head Constable Monit worked hard. Thanks to their hard work, a total of 31 expensive luxury vehicles have been recovered so far, which include models like Toyota Fortuner, Innova, Mahindra Thar and Scorpio. A total of 10 people have been arrested so far, including an employee of Bilaspur Licensing Authority.
What is chassis number?
The chassis number (VIN) is a 17-digit alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies a vehicle. It is stamped on the frame of the vehicle, showing information such as the manufacturing region, company, and year. It is also called the Aadhar card of the vehicle, which can be found on the RC, insurance policy, dashboard, or driver side door pillar.
