The Philadelphia 76ers completed a 3-1 series comeback on Saturday night, defeating the Boston Celtics 109-100 in Game 7 and moving into the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Philadelphia, seeded No. 7, now prepares to face No. 3 New York in Game 1 on Monday.
The loss ends the second-seeded Celtics' campaign earlier than any season since 2020-21 and hands Boston a rare collapse. Boston's series record when leading 3-1 dropped to 32-1, after entering the night unbeaten in that position.
Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey drove Philadelphia's offence, while Jaylen Brown and Derrick White led Boston's response. V.J. Edgecombe and Neemias Queta also made important scoring contributions as both teams leaned heavily on their main rotations in the decider.
The 76ers held a slim 101-98 advantage entering the final 90 seconds. Tyrese Maxey broke free for a layup with 1:15 left, then added two free throws for a 105-98 cushion as Boston missed four straight attempts down the stretch.
| Player | Team | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Embiid | Philadelphia 76ers | 34 | 12 | 6 |
| Tyrese Maxey | Philadelphia 76ers | 30 | 11 | 7 |
| V.J. Edgecombe | Philadelphia 76ers | 23 | - | - |
| Jaylen Brown | Boston Celtics | 33 | 9 | - |
| Derrick White | Boston Celtics | 26 | - | - |
| Neemias Queta | Boston Celtics | 17 | 12 | - |
Embiid ended with 34 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, while Maxey produced 30 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Edgecombe scored 23 for Philadelphia. Boston's offence leaned on Brown's 33 points and nine rebounds, with White adding 26 points and five three-pointers, and Queta posting 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Three-point shooting again troubled the Celtics, who went 13 of 49 from long range and missed their final nine attempts. Boston also played without Jayson Tatum, who was ruled out roughly 90 minutes before tipoff because of left knee stiffness.
From a historical view, this victory gives the franchise, including its Syracuse Nationals years, a 2-10 record in road Game 7s, with the only previous such success coming at Boston Garden in 1982. The series win also counts as the NBA's 14th comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
Philadelphia now turns towards the Eastern Conference semifinals against New York, while Boston faces an early off-season after a second-round exit. The result reshapes expectations in the conference, with the 76ers advancing from the No. 7 seed and the Celtics leaving after missing a close-out opportunity in three consecutive games.
