Chennai Super Kings (CSK) created history after they defeated (MI) by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK have blown hot and cold this season, but they had a near-perfect game against the Hardik Pandya-led side.
Having restricted MI to 159-7, CSK cruised to a win by eight wickets, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad playing a brilliant knock of 67. CSK had also thrashed MI at the Wankhede Stadium, thus making it 2-0 this season. Meanwhile, the recent win helped CSK achieve a special feat. CSK and MI have shared an intense rivalry in   and it is clearly evident from their head-to-head records where MI marginally lead CSK with 21 wins. CSK, on the other hand, have 20 wins against the MI. The recent win over MI meant that CSK became the first team in IPL to register 20 wins against the Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings have 17 wins against the former champions. CSK Boost Playoff Hopes Meanwhile, the win over MI have kept playoff hopes alive for the CSK. The Yellow Army have eight points in nine games, and if they are to qualify for the playoffs, they'll have to reach at least 14 points, which means they'll have to win a minimum of three matches out of the five remaining games. It'll be best for them to win all five, but they'll still have an outside chance if they lose only one or two at best. For MI, things are gloomy. MI have four points against their name and only wins in all their remaining games can keep them in the hunt for a playoff berth. Another loss, and MI's hopes will be put to rest. What Is Going Wrong For MI? IPL 2026 has been a nightmare for the Mumbai Indians. The leadership from Hardik Pandya has been questionable, the batting has fallen apart, and the bowling has failed to make any significant impact. Considering the facts, the results are not surprising. But MI will be disappointed because they are not short on quality, but the big guns have been a let-down.
