The Chennai Super Kings are firmly back in the Indian Premier League 2026 season after their sluggish start. After what was a dismal period in the beginning players have now hit their form and they've picked up some fantastic form at just the right time.
One player who truly kick-started the comeback for Chennai was Sanju Samson. Scoring a hundred against the Delhi Capitals for his first massive innings of the season he picked up their first victory and boost to the confidence, of the season.
Since that first victory they have managed to secure four further victories in the season so far. Including beating the Mumbai Indians on two occasions. They now beat Mumbai Indians for the sixth time in their last seven matches against MI dating back to 2023.
In their latest match at MA Chidambaram stadium MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first on a difficult batting pitch. Despite getting off to a good start they failed to compile a large total.
Young bowler for the Chennai Super KingsAnshul Kamboj was leading the charge for Chennai taking three crucial wickets of which was Will Jacks. This put them in good stead to keep Mumbai Indians to 159 runs. Also bowling some brilliant overs Noor Ahmed.
It has been a brilliant season for the young bowler so far as he has moved to the top of the wicket taking charts with 17 wickets in nine matches.

Gaikwad and Kartik Sharma chase down with ease
Chasing 160 captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led his CSK team with ease. Sanju Samson who scored a hundred against MI in their previous outing went for 5. But Gaikwad wasn't concerned about it and batted with caution.
He first built a steady partnership with Urvil Patel to keep the team safe in the powerplay. And then put up a brilliant partnership with young batterKartik Sharma who he promoted up the order.
They added a substantial 98-run partnership which all but killed the match. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 67 of 48 balls and was duly rewarded Player of the Match. Whilst Kartik Sharma hit a mature 54 of 40 balls to score his maiden IPL half-century. This partnership sealed the biggest win over MI by the Chennai Super Kings with regards to wickets.
Talking about the match after his sides victory the captain expressed his feelings on the match:
Ruturaj said:
"Feels good. We started really well, the first couple of overs; they got momentum after that and we pulled it back. It was about getting through the first couple of overs, and then it was about one of the top three staying there."
He also added:
"He is someone who is keeping it really simple, sticking to the process, and his mind is thinking like a batter's mind. Noor has made some adjustments and come along really well. We thought about how to get the balance right, how to get a batter at 8 and the extra bowler. Veer and Ghosh are someone who can contribute with both; they give extra cushion in the batting and bowl a couple of overs as well,"
Discussing the form of Kartik Sharma he said:
"Yes, he is a six hitter but he has other game as well, but he picks and chooses particular deliveries. Great sign for us as Mr. Cricket said he is someone who if he gets going, then can be great for us."
The Chennai Super Kings are proving that form can come back and they have certainly got their momentum building heading into the later stages of the tournament.
