Morigaon, May 3: To mark the golden jubilee of the Assam Lekhika Sanstha, an engaging discussion and book launch took place on Thursday, organized by the Aideu Handique branch in Morigaon.
The venue for this event was the conference hall of the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association, where the festivities commenced with a group performance of 'Mayabini' by Zubeen Garg, honoring the beloved artist.
The discussion, led by Rina Rani Saikia, president of the local Aideu Handique branch, was inaugurated by Morigaon's district commissioner, Anamika Tewari. The focus of the discussion was on 'The Role of the Home Environment in Ensuring Correct Pronunciation of the Assamese Language in Contemporary Times.'
Keynote speaker Paragjyoti Mahanta, general secretary of the Assam College Teachers’ Association, highlighted the importance of correct pronunciation for preserving the Assamese language's uniqueness. He stressed that parents should instill proper pronunciation of vowels and consonants in their children from a young age, as children tend to mimic what they hear at home.
Apurba Thakuria, the inspector of schools for Morigaon district, also contributed valuable insights during the session. The event featured the formal release of a book titled 'Bibidha,' edited by Rina Rani Saikia, which was unveiled by Dr. Harmohan Kalita, president of the Morigaon District Sahitya Sabha.
Hosted by Anita Pathak, secretary of the Aideu Handique branch, the program attracted several notable figures, including Ajit Sharma, president of the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association, former president Birinchi Kumar Sharma, and columnist Janardan Sharma, all of whom shared impactful speeches.
Additionally, awards were presented to winners of a prior essay competition. In Category ‘A’, Tulamai Tamuli took first place, followed by Nilakshi Das and Drishyaraani Deka in second and third, respectively. In Category ‘B’, Mobasira Begum won first, with Nikshita Deka and Bhagyashree Medhi securing second and third places.
The program commenced with Rina Rani Saikia hoisting the flag, while senior journalist Janardan Sharma lit the ceremonial lamp and paid tributes. Floral offerings and lamp lighting were also conducted in front of portraits of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg by Pinaki Bhushan Mahanta, Pranjal Bora, and Kalpana Sharma.
