Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker recently took to Instagram to hit back at trolls who body shamed her postpartum weight gain. Expressing her frustration rightly so, she said that she did not conform to the norm of losing the baby weight as soon as everyone expects. Here's what she said:

Describing her experience of facing insensitive comments about her body after giving birth, Swara said it angers her immensely when people thrust their expectations about women’s appearance without a single thought. She said that women’s bodies are not just meant to look desirable.
Sharing a before and after picture of herself, Swara wrote, “The kind of rage and anger I’ve encountered in the last few years because my body has changed after childbirth and because I refuse to lose the weight on the timeline of strangers on the internet.. is bizarre! I want to say it- again and again.. Women’s bodies have more purpose than sexualisation and being hangers for glamour.”
She shared that she consciously decided not to rush into losing her baby weight as she decided to do things on her own timeline and pace. She said that it’s cruel to expect yourself to bounce back to old your physical self after a pregnancy.
She added, “After I had a baby (now 2.5 years ago) I chose NOT TO BOUNCE BACK. Because once you have a baby- there’s no back- you are a parent for the rest of your life 🧿 Life changes fundamentally and that’s okay. Of course we miss our old life, our young and free version, our thinner and tighter bodies but to mindlessly keep idealising our younger thinner selves- to force our bodies to bounce back or here and there and fit into versions of your past that are gone, is a kind of cruelty. Our bodies have conceived, carried, nurtured, delivered and nourished a whole other human being. Of course, they will change and that’s okay!!!!!”
Swara said that it’s not anybody’s business commenting on the bodies of women who have evidently changed after giving birth. She said it’s “unintelligent and nasty” to shame women for gaining weight after pregnancy.
Swara said, “This constant pressure to look desirable for the camera or internet or strangers, this incessant shaming of women for carrying postpartum weight, the judgement of women for not losing or not wanting to lose weight it is both unintelligent and nasty. It’s nobody’s business. Women should live their lives the way they want. And no, this is not an argument against fitness. Or health. This is an argument to honour our bodies and stop forcing ourselves to remain in boxes we’ve outgrown. Life is an onward forward going journey. It’s okay to give our bodies that grace too. ❤️”
A while ago, actor Patralekhaa, too, took to Instagram to call out paparazzi and other social media users who mindlessly acted shock and questioned her postpartum weight gain. Slamming them rightly so, Patralekhaa decided not to stay quiet and remind everyone that she recently gave birth to her daughter.
Patralekha wrote, “Pap pages! What's happened to me!? is that I have just given birth!" Giving a sharp answer, she added that she has not "sat and eaten a mountain. Yes, I have gained the weight, which seems like an unnatural phenomenon to you all. I have not sat and eaten a mountain, I just delivered a baby and produced two films simultaneously, which are not easy jobs. If I could, I would not be this way. But that's how my body has reacted to pregnancy. For God's sake, please learn to be a little kind.”
