On the eve of Gujarat Day on Friday all members of the Gujarat Titans fraternity players, owners, management, and support staff – got together for a team dinner. It was not just a regular team dinner but a celebration of the culture and traditions of the Indian state.

Tangaliya weaving is an art form originating from the Dangashiya community of Gujarat, which has its roots tracing back more than 700 years. This technique is known for producing intricate 'pearl like' patterns on the fabric which is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the state. It is traditionally worn only on special occasions, but has gained international recognition over the years. In fact, the traditional fabric was recently worn by Brad Pitt in an upcoming Formula 1 movie.

Other than the wear, players got to immerse themselves into the culture of the state up close and personal. Local food was served during the dinner, and prominent Gujarati dishes such as Khaman Dhokla were enjoyed by one and all.Traditional Gujarati music and Garba were also part of the celebrations adding to the merriment and excitement in the air.
The whole set-up was decked up in the typical heritage of Gujarat and players could be seen taking part and having fun. These activities help the players relax and interact with their teammates, bonding even stronger in what promises to be a long and rigorous tournament.
Events like this highlight the way teams are looking beyond the sport itself. Allowing players such moments allows them to relax, build rapport, and understand more about the state they are representing.
For the Gujarat Titans, it was an event that allowed them to be proud and respect the culture they are a part of. It proves that tradition can always fuse seamlessly with modern sport in its simplest and most fundamental ways.
The Gujarat Day celebration at the Gujarat Titans camp was a simple yet significant affair that resonated deeply with the state and its culture. Far from being a show, it was an attempt to connect with one's roots and celebrate life together as a team during a stressful and long tournament in the IPL.
