New Delhi: BMW India has launched the new M440i xDrive Convertible in the country at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.09 crore. The open-top performance car will be sold as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) Unit, which means it comes to India as a full import rather than being locally assembled.
For buyers who want a fast BMW with roof-down drama, this is now one of the more interesting choices in the luxury performance space. I mean, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive and a fabric roof that opens in 18 seconds is not exactly your usual Monday traffic car, but that is the point here.

BMW M440i xDrive Convertible: Price, engine and performanceThe BMW M440i xDrive Convertible is powered by the same B58 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the M340i. It makes 374 hp and 500 Nm of torque. BMW says the car can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic gearbox. It also gets BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, Adaptive M suspension, M Sport differential and M Sport brakes.
Key bits for enthusiasts include:
- 48V mild-hybrid setup
- Red M Sport brake callipers
- Variable Sport Steering
- 19-inch M light-alloy wheels
- M Sport exhaust unit
The car gets a panel bow soft-top roof, which can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 50 kmph. The process takes 18 seconds, which is quick enough for those sudden “should I drop the roof?” moments at a signal.
Inside, BMW has added a 14.9-inch Curved Display, 12.3-inch digital driver display, head-up display, Harman Kardon sound system, sports seats, M leather steering wheel and BMW Operating System 8.5. The car also gets Digital Key Plus, My BMW App support, 360-degree parking view and reversing assistant.
