In initial research, work is being done on stem cell therapy and new methods to balance the immune system. These can help in reducing swelling, healing tissue and improving joint movement. Although these treatments are not yet fully in common use and require further research, in the future they offer hope for reversing the progression of the disease rather than simply controlling it.
