Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma opened the scoring against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday (May 4). In the chase of 229 runs, Rohit played a brilliant inning of 84 runs in 44 balls, which included 6 fours and 7 sixes. For the first time in his IPL career, he hit so many sixes in an innings. Rohit made a partnership of 143 runs with Ryan Rickleton, which was the fourth highest partnership for MI in IPL.

When invited to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium, LSG scored a big score of 228 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. In response, Rohit-Rickleton gave the start that MI needed. Both scored 77 runs in the powerplay. Rickleton Atishi was batting, Rohit was standing calmly at the other end. He could score only 12 runs in his first 11 balls. Rohit took Avesh Khan on the radar in the last over of the powerplay and after hitting two consecutive fours, he hit back to back sixes.
Rohit, who was returning from injury, was now in form. He sent AM Siddharth over long on after the field opened up. Rickleton was also not going to be left behind. This South African wicketkeeper batsman hit a six over fine leg on Siddharth’s full toss ball as soon as he got the strike. In the next over, Rickleton hit a six against Avesh and then completed his fifty in 22 balls with a single. Rohit also soon reached Pachasha. He completed his half-century in style by hitting a six against Siddharth. Rohit took 27 balls to reach this milestone, which was his fourth fastest fifty in the IPL.
