Uttar Pradesh Government Shifts to Postpaid Smart Meters Amid Controversy

In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding smart and prepaid meters in Uttar Pradesh, Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma has announced a pivotal change. All smart meters will now function like postpaid meters, effectively phasing out the prepaid system. Consumers will once again receive monthly bills, and there will be options for settling outstanding installments.
Minister Sharma has instructed the relevant department to ensure that electricity is not disconnected under any circumstances within a month. Additionally, complaints should be addressed on a priority basis. It is noteworthy that there has been significant opposition to smart meters in Uttar Pradesh.
