The ten teams in IPL 2026 have completed half of their matches which allows them to compete for all four playoff positions. The campaign has reached an exciting point because seasoned players have established their dominance. Virat Kohli who earned the title of the 'King' through his IPL achievements must now defend his title against a new opponent.
The IPL champion title which belongs to RCB and which Virat Kohli earned as the tournament's top run scorer makes him the most acclaimed royal player who stands among the league's all-time greats. The KKR CEO created a new discussion about the player's royal status when he declared their top bowler as the new king of the IPL.
The KKR CEO Venky Mysore described Sunil Narine as the new king of the IPL. For those unaware, Narine claimed his 200th IPL wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad, becoming the first overseas player in the league to reach the landmark.
Narine's excellent bowling performance helped KKR achieve their third consecutive tournament win. Mysore presented Narine with a special memento during the post-match presentation to honor him as the new king.
Venky Mysore commented during post-match presentation: “This is the first time I am seeing; I just double checked with the king. This is the first time I am seeing him opening the bowling, and of course, his bowling powerplay. We have seen him do all kinds of things. But today, when he had the ball in hand, I said, This is the first for me. I have never seen that before, but two in a row, and they set the tone beautifully there. But amazing the whole bowling unit, so I thought today, with 200 wickets, we have got to give King the game changer."
Sunil Narine made his IPL debut in 2012 and has played for Kolkata Knight Riders from that time until now. The 37-year-old player has assisted the franchise in winning three championships throughout his career.
