Sunil Gavaskar Criticises Jasprit Bumrah Over Heated Incident Against LSG
Cricket Gully | May 5, 2026 2:39 PM CST

Jasprit Bumrah remains one of the finest bowlers in T20 cricket, but even great players go through rough phases. The Mumbai Indians pacer has experienced a complete decline this season because he currently plays at a level which is below his normal performance.

During the ongoing IPL campaign, batters have dominated Bumrah, while his confidence appears at its lowest point.Through nine matches of IPL 2026 he has only taken 3 wickets which has created major problems for the Mumbai Indians team during the tournament.

The right-arm pacer had a chance to bounce back against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, but he made a costly mistake that drew heavy criticism from the commentators.

Sunil Gavaskar slams Bumrah for "NO-BALL" error:

Bumrah gave away 31 runs in his first two overs against LSG as Nicholas Pooran and Mitch Marsh attacked him freely. However, he returned to bowl his third over with new energy but the situation did not get better for him.

Bumrah bowled a perfect length ball on the third delivery of the 14th over which LSG batter Himmat Singh hit to the wicketkeeper for an edge. The entire stadium and MI players celebrated instantly before reality struck.

The siren sounded to confirm Bumrah had bowled a no-ball which provided Himmat Singh with a second chance to bat. Sunil Gavaskar condemned the experienced player for making a major error because he had committed a serious fault by stepping beyond the batting crease.

Bumrah has experienced multiple difficulties during this IPL season. His T20 World Cup performance for India showed his talent but since that time his bowling speed decreased and his pitching precision vanished.

The star pacer bowled his eighth no-ball of the IPL 2026 match through his second no-ball delivery during the same over. His third no-ball of the match occurred during the same over when he bowled his second no-ball delivery.

Despite making fundamental errors, the pacer only allowed six runs to score while no batsman hit for extra bases during that particular over. Himmat Singh scored 40 runs off 31 balls because the no-ball brought expensive results, which enabled LSG to reach a total score of 228 runs and five wickets lost.

The 32-year-old player became the main asset which Mumbai Indians expected to use for their IPL 2026 campaign as they entered the tournament with strong championship expectations. The Hardik Pandya team used Bumrah as their main strategy, but he has not achieved his performance goals until now.

The Indian fast bowler has achieved three wickets through his performance in ten IPL 2026 matches which he played before his LSG match appearance.

The current IPL season stands as Bumrah's least successful season because he has recorded his highest economy rate during this period. The batters began their offensive against him from his initial delivery which resulted in him losing his normal bowling pattern.
