New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering the introduction of stricter regulations during the Indian Premier League (IPL) to address concerns over players being accompanied by their partners during matches and team activities.
According to sources, several players, including Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Arshdeep Singh, have been seen publicly with their partners during the tournament. Reports indicate that some partners have travelled in team buses, stayed in the same hotels, and appeared at match venues.
Officials are said to be examining the issue in view of possible complications arising from such arrangements. Concerns have also been raised that some individuals accompanying players have developed a presence on social media as influencers. There are claims that a few were previously involved in promoting betting applications.
Authorities believe that any controversies involving such individuals could impact the reputation of the BCCI and the IPL. A senior official noted that failure to regulate the situation at an early stage could lead to larger issues in the future.
Reasons behind BCCI’s concern- Instances have been reported where team buses were delayed due to the presence of players’ partners.
- Some partners are said to be staying in team hotels and travelling alongside players.
- There are concerns over possible leakage of sensitive or internal information.
- Allowing partners to accompany players during the tournament may create a perception of official association.
The BCCI is expected to take a decision on the proposed guidelines ahead of upcoming IPL fixtures.
