Census Fraud: The nationwide census exercise is currently underway. However, taking advantage of this official government activity, certain fraudsters have begun targeting the public. The Delhi Police has alerted citizens regarding this matter and has issued a warning on its official social media platform, 'X'. According to the police, individuals posing as government officials are soliciting OTPs, bank details, and other personal information from people under the pretext of the census. Many people, mistaking this for a legitimate procedure, share their details, thereby becoming vulnerable to cyber fraud.

How is the Fraud Being Perpetrated?
According to the police, the perpetrators attempt to gain trust by claiming to be officials associated with the census. Subsequently, they request OTPs, UPI PINs, or banking-related information. Many individuals, believing it to be a standard government procedure, fall for these tactics and end up becoming victims of fraud.

Officials Do Not Request Personal Information
The Delhi Police has clarified that no authorized government official will ever request OTPs, UPI PINs, or money during the census or any other government-related process. Therefore, if anyone requests such information, remain immediately vigilant and refrain from sharing any personal details.

Report Immediately
The police have appealed to the public that if they encounter any such suspicious activity, they should immediately report it to the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930. Additionally, a formal complaint can also be lodged at the nearest police station.

Stay Vigilant Regarding Security
Fraudulent activities being conducted under the guise of official government tasks—such as the census—are a matter of serious concern. Consequently, citizens need to remain vigilant and well-informed to safeguard themselves against any form of criminal activity. Awareness remains the most effective defense against falling victim to such crimes.
