Bottom-placed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered their seventh loss of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The latest loss was against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday night. Skipper Rishabh Pant looked at a loss for words as his team saw the hosts cruise to an easy six-wicket win.

Suryakumar won the toss and chose to bowl first and saw the visiting side race to 123 for the loss of one wicket at the end of eight overs. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh had given the side a great start with the bat. The former West Indian batter had reached his first half-century of the season from just 16 balls.

In the end, LSG ended up with just 228 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma then destroyed the bowling to help MI overhaul the huge total. Barring Prince Yadav, every Lucknow bowler was put to the task and hit for runs by the home team batters.

Skipper Rishabh left frustrated after the latest loss

Speaking to the host broadcaster at the end of the game, Pant said, “After the start we had, we could have scored more runs. Our batters played with a free mindset, but the MI bowlers did well to come back into the game because of their familiarity with these conditions. I feel we were short by 15-20 runs in the end”.

The 28-year-old also said, “Our bowlers have done a good job, so I cannot blame them. Certainly, believe that we have some luck going our way, which is what I can say at this moment. If we have to keep our hopes for qualification, then we need blessings and lots of efforts”.

Mumbai‘s bowling finally comes to the fore

Aussie batter Josh Inglsplaying his first game of the season, scored 13 runs from five balls with three boundaries in his innings. Skipper Yadav caught the Australian to give Allah Ghazanfar his first wicket of the day. Marsh and Pooran’s stand of 94 came in just 34 balls as the home team looked short of ideas.

Corbin Bosch then dismissed both batters in the ninth over to derail the rampaging start to the game. Super Giants kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Aiden Markram’s 31 not out and Himmat Singh’s unbeaten 40 helped the side reach a formidable score on the board.
