From kitchen to politics: the unheard story of struggle
Before coming into politics, Kalita Majhi used to work as a sweeper and utensil worker in four different houses. She used to earn Rs 2500 to 3000 every month from this. Despite limited resources and difficult living conditions, they maintained their social engagement. This connection later became his political strength. He had to face defeat in the 2021 assembly elections. At that time she had lost to Abhedananda Thandar of Trinamool Congress by 11,518 votes. But the party remained confident of his local influence and direct connect with the public, and nominated him again in 2026—in what has now proved to be a decisive decision. This time, according to election data, Kalita Majhi received 1,07,692 votes, while her nearest rival Shyama Prasanna Lohar lost by 12,535 votes.
