Vicky Kaushal is reportedly in advanced talks to join 4 Idiots, a project that is shaping up to be one of the most exciting casting developments in recent times.
As per sources by Pinkvilla, the actor is being considered for a pivotal role of the ‘fourth idiot’, alongside the iconic trio of Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi.
Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film is currently in the writing phase, with Hirani reuniting with his long-time collaborator Abhijat Joshi to craft the screenplay. The team is reportedly taking a measured approach to ensure the sequel lives up to the legacy of 3 Idiots, with plans to begin filming in the latter half of 2027.

Vicky, who has earlier worked with Hirani on Sanju and Dunki, is said to be impressed with the script. Industry insiders suggest that his character will add a fresh emotional layer to the narrative while complementing the dynamic of the original trio. The source said, “Kaushal is keen on sharing screen space with Aamir Khan and contributing to a franchise that enjoys immense recall value.”
“Multiple meetings between Vicky, Aamir and Hirani have already taken place, and Vicky has verbally agreed to play the part of 4th Idiot, though the timelines have to align for the entire ensemble,” added the source.
Aamir Khan has recently confirmed that 4 Idiots is indeed in development, hinting that the story will move nearly a decade ahead from where 3 Idiots ended. The planned time jump is expected to revisit the characters at a more mature stage of life, exploring how their journeys have evolved while introducing fresh challenges and conflicts.

Aamir is also likely to wrap up another project before stepping into this film, aligning his schedule with the timeline of the sequel. With nostalgia at its core and the potential addition of Vicky Kaushal to the ensemble, the film is shaping up to offer a new dimension to a beloved franchise.
The original 3 Idiots featured a strong supporting cast, including Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Mona Singh, and Omi Vaidya. The cult comedy was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, co-written with Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, all of whom played a key role in shaping its enduring legacy.
