Washington, May 5. A lockdown was imposed for some time after an armed man was shot near the White House. According to officials, the incident occurred when the man opened fire at the security personnel. Deputy director Matt Quinn told reporters that the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Plainclothes Secret Service personnel patrolling the outskirts of the White House spotted a suspicious man suspected of having a weapon.

After this policemen were called to the spot. When officers tried to approach the man, he ran a short distance and then suddenly pulled out a gun and fired at the security personnel. In response, the security personnel also opened fire, in which the person was injured. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital, but no information was released about his condition.

A minor pedestrian was also injured in this firing. Officials said the child was not seriously injured and is undergoing treatment. According to initial information, the child was shot by the suspect. The incident occurred near 15th Street and Independence Avenue, a short distance from the White House. Security personnel said that the suspect was being monitored for some time because there were indications that he had weapons.

After the incident, the journalists present in the North Lawn of the White House were asked to go inside. Within minutes, the lockdown was lifted and President Donald Trump attended a small business event in the East Room as scheduled. Trump did not say anything directly on this incident, but regarding the security of the capital, he said that Washington DC is now one of the safest cities in America.

Officials said there was no indication yet that the suspect was targeting the President or the White House. Investigation of the matter is ongoing. Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade had passed through the same area shortly before the incident, but no evidence was found that an attack was planned.

A weapon has also been recovered from the spot. This matter will now be investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department. This incident has happened at a time when there is already increased concern about security in Washington.
