LPG Connections: New Rules—Major changes have been implemented in India's LPG distribution system, effective May 1st. These changes could directly impact the general public, particularly families receiving subsidized gas. The government and oil companies state that these modifications are being introduced to eliminate fraudulent or duplicate connections, curb the misuse of subsidies, and deactivate long-dormant accounts; however, these measures may also cause difficulties for some individuals in obtaining their gas cylinders. Essentially, completing Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification has now become mandatory to receive LPG gas.

If you hold an LPG connection, you should complete your Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification as soon as possible. Customers whose Aadhaar card verification remains incomplete will not receive cylinder deliveries until the verification process is finalized. Officials have clarified that customers who have already completed their authentication need not undergo this process again; however, those who last obtained an LPG refill prior to June 2025 will be required to undergo verification.

Customers with incomplete or outdated KYC records face the highest risk. According to reports, families who last obtained an LPG cylinder refill prior to June 2025 will potentially be classified as "inactive users." Such customers will be unable to place orders for new cylinders until their e-KYC verification is completed.

**Aadhaar-based e-KYC is Mandatory**
LPG consumers are now required to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification. This rule applies specifically to beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Scheme (PMUY). Individuals whose Aadhaar verification is currently pending will not receive gas cylinders until their e-KYC is finalized; conversely, those who have already completed their Aadhaar authentication need not take any further action.

**Cylinder Delivery via OTP**
In several regions, providing an OTP (One Time Password) will now be mandatory at the time of receiving a cylinder. A Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) will be sent to the customer's registered mobile number. The cylinder will not be handed over without the customer providing this OTP.

**Increased Gap Between Cylinder Bookings**
Oil companies are extending the mandatory waiting period between two consecutive cylinder bookings. The objective is to prevent the hoarding of gas and curb its commercial misuse.

What should the general public do?
Complete the Aadhaar e-KYC for your LPG connection promptly.
Keep your mobile number updated.
Keep the OTP handy when the cylinder is delivered.
If these essential steps are completed, you will face no difficulties in receiving your gas supply.
