Vijay Thalapathy and R. Sabrinathan
In what sounds like a filmy underdog story, R. Sabrinathan has won a landslide victory. He is the son of the personal driver of Vijay Thalapathi (head of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam i.e. TVK). Not only did he win from Virugambakkam seat in Tamil Nadu, but he also defeated sitting DMK MLA A.M.V. Prabhakar defeated Raja by a huge margin of 27,086 votes.
How much salary will you get?
R Sabarinathan, son of Vijay Thalapathi's driver, has now become a member of Tamil Nadu Assembly, he will now get a monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh 5 thousand every month from the government. Let us tell you that in 2017, the then Tamil Nadu government had increased the salary of MLAs from Rs 55 thousand to Rs 1 lakh 5 thousand.
Big win from simple background
Sabarinathan's father Rajendran has worked with Vijay for a long time. Sabarinathan, who was not much known earlier, has now suddenly become a big face of discussion in Tamil Nadu politics. His victory is being considered as the effect of ground hold and victory wave. After the victory, he openly expressed happiness and even said that this is a sign of the end of DMK.
TVK's growth in the entire state
It is not just a matter of one seat. TVK seems to be gaining a strong foothold across Tamil Nadu and has won more than 100 seats in the 234-seat assembly. Although 118 seats are required for majority, these results indicate a major change in the politics of the state. There is also discussion that small parties can support Vijay if needed.
Vijay's explosive political debut
Vijay himself has also performed brilliantly. He won from Perambur seat by more than 53,000 votes. His performance was strong in Tiruchirappalli (East) also. Party leaders claim that Vijay can become the next Chief Minister.
Big upheavals were also seen
Many surprising results also came in this election. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin lost his Kolathur seat, where TVK's VS Babu defeated him by about 9,000 votes. At the same time, Congress, which was part of the DMK alliance, had to be satisfied with only a few seats.
Is the politics of Tamil Nadu changing?
For a long time, the politics of Tamil Nadu has revolved around Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. But this time the results seem to be breaking this pattern for the first time since the 1970s. Vijay is now being compared with film star-turned-politicians like MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalitha and NT Rama Rao.
No more just stardom, real support
Earlier it was said that film stars are not able to convert their popularity into votes, but Vijay seems to be changing this thinking. Stories like Sabarinathan's victory show that it is not just star power but the impact of connect with the public. Whether TVK forms the government or not, it is certain that this time there has been a big change in the politics of Tamil Nadu.
