Reliance Jio has made a major reshuffle in the recharge portfolio for its crores of 4G feature phone users (JioPhone and JioBharat). Following questions raised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) over the lack of transparency in device-specific plans, the company has removed the old ‘JioBharat’ and ‘JioPhone’ categories and introduced a new one. ‘4G Feature Phone Plan’ Category has been introduced. This change simply means that now the plans for all 4G keypad phone users will be uniform and transparent, but at the same time, due to the closure of the cheapest ₹ 91 plan, the burden on the initial pockets of the users has increased.
TRAI’s objection and Jio’s new strategy
Jio took this step when TRAI found that different plans for different devices were creating confusion among customers. To curb this, Jio has restructured its entire prepaid portfolio. Now the company has completely abolished the special plans of ‘JioPhone’ and has introduced them with the new name of ‘4G Feature Phone Plan’. This change will not only increase transparency but will also make Jio compliant with regulatory standards.
Mathematics of new 4G feature phone plans
Now initial recharge for Jio feature phone users ₹123 Will start from. Here is the full list of new plans:
