Jasprit Bumrah's performance in IPL 2026 has been poor. He has taken only 3 wickets in 10 matches. According to Sunil Gavaskar, trying too many variations has spoiled his rhythm and technical control.
IPL 2026 is not going anything special for Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah also remained empty handed in the match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, May 4 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In this IPL season, Bumrah has not been able to take a single wicket in 7 out of 10 matches. There was a time when he kept yearning for wickets for five consecutive matches. This 32-year-old bowler has taken only three wickets so far this season. His rhythm and consistency are in question, although he is creating chances for Mumbai Indians.
In 10 matches of IPL 2026, Jasprit Bumrah has bowled 222 balls and given 329 runs. His average is 109.66 and economy rate is 8.89. This season, both his wicket-taking ability and control have been missing.
'Bumrah is trying to do too much'
Amidst the poor performance of Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah's bowling form has also become a big topic of discussion. Although MI achieved a crucial 6-wicket win against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah once again failed to take any wicket.
Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that Jasprit Bumrah is trying too many variations, which has upset his natural rhythm and affected his wicket-taking ability.
The former Indian captain said, "Bumrah is trying his best, but it seems that he is trying too many different things. He is creating chances to take wickets, but luck is not on his side. His pace has also decreased a bit, he is doing more than necessary and that is what is hurting him."
He further added, "They should go back to their old and basic things and stick to what works best for them. Trying new things is ruining their rhythm and luck is also not helping."

There were reports that Jasprit Bumrah has recently recovered from a minor injury, for which he also checked-in at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru ahead of IPL 2026. However, the MI fast bowler has been struggling to find his rhythm this season.
Gavaskar pointed out technical flaws in bowling
When Jasprit Bumrah was unable to take wickets, Sunil Gavaskar pointed out some small but important technical changes in his bowling. He told that Bumrah's length has become fuller, the line is going towards the leg stump and his control over the no-ball has also reduced this season.
Gavaskar said, "The length of his slower ball is now fuller than before. The line which earlier targeted the stumps is now going towards the leg stump. He is not known for bowling many no-balls, but this season he has already bowled six or seven no-balls."

Jasprit Bumrah has bowled 8 no-balls in 10 matches of IPL 2026. Against Lucknow Super Giants, he bowled three no-balls, one of which gave a life to Himmat Singh. This shows that he is struggling to maintain discipline and consistency this season.
Mumbai Indians will have to win all four of their remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive. In such a situation, the team would like Bumrah to regain his rhythm as soon as possible and take wickets with his old sharp bowling at this important juncture of IPL 2026.
