Two new sports colleges in Saharanpur and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh will start from 2026-27. With admission from class 9, 80-80 seats and new sports facilities, the youth will get better training in their own field.
Lucknow. A big decision has been taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote sports in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has decided to start two new sports colleges in Saharanpur and Fatehpur. Studies and training will start in these colleges from the academic session 2026-27. With this decision, the youth of the state will be able to get better sports facilities and professional training in their own area.
Projects pending for years get new momentum
Both these sports colleges were lying incomplete for a long time.
- Fatehpur Sports College received approval in January 2011 and construction began in November 2011. It was to be completed by July 2018, but the work could not be completed on time.
- Construction of the Saharanpur Sports College was to begin in February 2011 and be completed by February 2013, but it also remained incomplete.
The Yogi government got these projects completed on priority and has now completed preparations to start them.
UP will become a state with five sports colleges
After the opening of these two new colleges, the total number of sports colleges in Uttar Pradesh will increase to five.
Already operating colleges:
- Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow
- Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College of Gorakhpur
- Major Dhyan Chand Sports College of Etawah (Saifai)
Apart from this, construction of another sports college is going on in Ballia.
Admission starts from class 9: Players will get a chance
In both the new sports colleges, the admission process will start from class 9. With this, students from far-flung areas will not need to go to big cities and their time and expenses will be saved.
Fatehpur Sports College will have a total of 80 seats, including:
- Athletics (runner, jumper, thrower)
- hockey and goalie
- Wrestling
- handball
Separate seats have been fixed for all these sports.
Saharanpur Sports College: Beginning of new sports
There will also be admission on 80 seats in Saharanpur Sports College. Here are the games included:
- Athletics (runner, jumper, thrower)
- hockey and goalie
- Judo
- boxing
- weight lifting
The special thing is that the sport of weightlifting is being started for the first time in a sports college.
Selection Process and Eligibility
For admission in these sports colleges, the student must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Only qualified and talented players will get admission through the selection process, so that sports talents can get the right platform.
Target of sports college and excellence center in every division
Sports Department Secretary Suhas L.Y. Said that the government's aim is to open sports colleges and excellence centers in every division. In these centres, players will get complete facilities for living, studying and training. Like the State Center of Excellence, specialist training will also be provided for different sports.
