The Union Cabinet has approved Kapas Kanti Mission to increase cotton production. ₹5,659 crore will be spent on this mission and it will be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31. India is the second largest cotton producer in the world and about 32 lakh farmers are associated with it in the country. The government aims to increase production through research, new technology and new fibres, so that the increasing domestic demand (450 lakh bales) can be met by 2030-31.
Big decision for sugarcane farmers
The Cabinet has fixed the FRP (Base Price like Minimum Support Price) of sugarcane for the 2026-27 season, the total impact of which is said to be around ₹ 1 lakh crore. This will directly benefit the sugarcane farmers across the country.
Relief to MSME sector
The government has decided to extend the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5. ₹18,100 crore will be spent on this. Its objective is to strengthen the business by providing cheap and easy loan facilities to small and medium industries (MSME).
Big investment in infrastructure
The Cabinet has approved Ship Repair Hub at Vadinar, Gujarat at a cost of ₹1,570 crore. This will increase maritime business and employment opportunities. Big projects in the railway sector have also got the green signal.

- Guntakalwadi Line (₹4,758 crore)
- Burhawalsitapur Line (₹2,276 crore)
By laying the third and fourth tracks on these lines, traffic will be reduced and the speed of trains will increase.
boost to semiconductor sector
Two new units have been approved to increase chip manufacturing in the country. Crystal Matrix Ltd. (₹3,068 crore), List Semicon Pvt. Ltd. (₹868 crore) and this will strengthen India's technology self-reliance.
Emphasis on strengthening the justice system
The Cabinet has also taken an important decision at the policy level to further strengthen the Supreme Court, which will help in improving the justice process. Overall, it is clear from these decisions that the government is working together on all four fronts: agriculture, industry, infrastructure and technology. Especially through steps like Cotton Revolution Mission, emphasis has been laid on increasing the income of farmers and strengthening the textile sector.
