The election results in West Bengal have brought a major turning point in the politics of the country. The landslide victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party has sparked a new discussion in political circles. In this series, the country’s famous writer and former model Shobhaa De has also given her opinion on this historic victory. Posting a video on Instagram, he described this entire incident as a ‘historic moment’ and also talked about the reasons for Mamata Banerjee’s defeat.

Starting the video, Shobha De said, “Today the City of Joy (Kolkata) is full of happiness and it is natural too. I was not well, but I could not let this historic moment slip away. So I got ready and made this video and am celebrating this big and historic victory with the people of Kolkata.”

Shobha De made it clear in her video that she does not want to go too much into the political aspects of this issue, but she raised the question as to what were the reasons behind Mamata Banerjee’s defeat.

He said, “We will not go too much into the politics of it, but the question is, why did Mamata lose? I think the answer is very clear. It was the women of West Bengal who ousted a woman leader from power. What mistake did Mamata do? She never showed sympathy, solidarity or sensitivity towards the women of Bengal, which was expected of her and this very thing went against her. Its effect was clearly visible in the election results.”

Shobha De said, “This defeat is not just the defeat of a political party, but it is also a personal defeat for Mamata Banerjee. This is a crushing blow for her. No leader would have felt such a defeat. At this time we should not talk about revenge or retribution.”

He referred to the Prime Minister’s statement in which Modi said, ‘Now the lotus is blooming in West Bengal and it should be allowed to bloom.’

Shobha De said, “This election result is a sign of change and the public has clearly voted in favor of change. The people of the state have been troubled by problems like corruption, poor infrastructure and suppression of their voices for a long time, and now they have given their verdict against all this.”

Referring to Mamata Banerjee’s long tenure, Shobha De said, “Mamata held the power of the state for about 15 years, but now the time has come for her to hand it over to someone else and see how the BJP works in the state. Now the entire country will keep an eye on it.”

Meanwhile, congratulations to the people of West Bengal who voted in such large numbers. The figure of 206 seats speaks volumes—it reflects their aspirations and hopes. Now there is hope that the future of West Bengal will again regain its old identity and glory, which was gradually destroyed.

Congratulating the people of West Bengal for this big mandate, he said, “The figure of 206 seats speaks a lot in itself. It shows what people want and what are their expectations. West Bengal will once again regain its old identity and glory. The state has faced many challenges in the last few years, but now is the chance to move forward again and bring happiness to the ‘City of Joy’.”
