In IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians (MI) have achieved their third win of the season in their 10th match. After this win, the hope of reaching the playoffs is still alive for the team. However, the path ahead is not easy. If the team has to make it to the playoffs, it will have to forget the mistakes of the previous matches and play brilliantly. On the other hand, Mumbai fans seem quite unhappy with the team’s performance this season but they are still hopeful that the team can make a comeback.
The condition of 5-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians has been very bad this season. The team has played 10 matches so far but has won only 3 and lost 7 matches. For this reason, Mumbai currently has only 6 points and their net run rate is -0.649. Due to poor performance, the team is at number 9 in the points table. However, after defeating Lucknow in the 47th match, Mumbai heaved a sigh of relief and moved from 10th to 9th.
Upcoming matches of Mumbai Indians
- 10 May: Mumbai vs Bengaluru (Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur)
- 14 May: Mumbai vs Punjab (Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala)
- 20 May: Mumbai vs Kolkata (Eden Gardens, Kolkata)
- 24 May: Mumbai vs Rajasthan (Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai)
Mumbai Indians’ playoff qualification scenario
The path to the playoffs is no less than a miracle for this team captained by Hardik Pandya. Even if Mumbai wins all its remaining matches, it will be able to reach maximum 14 points only. The team still has only 4 matches left. If we look at the history, in this 10-team tournament in 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was the only team which qualified for the playoffs with only 14 points.
Mumbai’s fate now depends more on the results of other teams than its own victory. Currently Punjab Kings (PBKS) are on 13 points and just one win will completely eliminate Mumbai from the race. At the same time, RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are present on 12-12 points. A win by any of these four teams can close the way for Mumbai to move forward. Mumbai will now have to pray that at least two of these teams perform poorly in their upcoming matches.
