Former India seamer Dodda Ganesh lashed out at the Delhi Capitals' (DC) management for persisting with Pathum Nissanka instead of trying the domestic batters in the side. He shared this opinion after the Sri Lankan opener was dismissed for 19 off 15 balls by Mukesh Choudhary in the Capitals' clash against the Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 5.
Ganesh said that there is plenty of Indian batting talent waiting in the Delhi Capitals' setup. He mentioned that the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, or Abishek Porel could open the batting with KL Rahul and David Miller could return to the side and play in the middle order. The 52-year-old went as far as sarcastically calling the DC think tank "geniuses".
"There’s so much Indian batting talent available in Delhi’s camp. They can so easily open with Shaw/Rana/Porel along with KL, & have Miller in the middle order. Instead, the geniuses play Nissanka at the top & drop Miller. Tell me, how can this be a serious cricket team," Ganesh wrote on his official 'X' (previously Twitter) handle.
Nissanka has played nine matches so far for the Capitals. He has scored 228 runs at an average of 25.33 and a strike rate of 156.17. On the other hand, Nitish Rana has batted at No. 3, scoring 217 runs in eight innings at an average of 27.13 and a strike rate of 156.12. Porel has played just one game, where he came in as an Impact Player after the Capitals lost too many wickets with plenty of overs to spare against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Coming to Shaw, the former India U-19 captain hasn't played a game so far in IPL 2026.
