Concerns Over Investigation Delays

Kash Patel, the Director of the FBI, has expressed strong disapproval regarding the management of Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, specifically targeting the Pima County Sheriff's Department during a recent podcast with Sean Hannity. Patel highlighted that the FBI was excluded from the investigation for the initial four days, a critical period in any case involving a missing person. He pointed out that the first 48 hours are crucial for collecting evidence and leads.

Once federal agents were permitted to join the investigation, they quickly achieved a significant breakthrough. Collaborating with Google, the FBI was able to retrieve cached footage from a doorbell camera system that might have otherwise been lost, potentially offering vital evidence in the case.

Patel also took issue with Sheriff Chris Nanos for not accepting additional federal support. He noted that the FBI had numerous agents ready to assist and even had a plane on standby to transport DNA evidence to its lab in Quantico for expedited analysis. Instead, local officials opted to send the DNA to a private laboratory in Florida, a choice Patel suggested could have hindered progress.

Nancy Guthrie has been unaccounted for since February 1, and despite significant media coverage and search efforts, the case has not progressed much. While Patel recognized that local law enforcement has the ultimate authority over such investigations, he emphasized that declining federal help during critical early moments can lead to serious repercussions.

As the search for Guthrie enters its fourth month, the Pima County Sheriff's Office issued a statement confirming that the investigation remains active and ongoing. A spokesperson for the sheriff's department stated, “The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains active and ongoing. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case.”
