Todd Neese, founder of the American Primate Conservancy and a Bigfoot researcher for over three decades, has explained why Ohio has become the location of recent Bigfoot 'activity'.
"Ohio is actually, believe it or not, ranked number 4 of all the states in the United States that have sightings, so it isn't really all that unusual. There seems to be a little pocket of them in them there woods, if you will," Neese told a Fox News host.
His remarks follow a fresh wave of reported Bigfoot activity in northeast Ohio after a long lull in comparable encounters. Since March, reports have "been pouring in" throughout Portage County, with purported sightings concentrated between Akron and Youngstown - approximately 50 miles apart - alongside photographs circulating online of enormous footprints thought to measure roughly 17 inches long, suggesting a creature that could stand at least seven feet tall.
Certain witnesses now maintain the "animal" may not be solitary, with speculation that an entire "family" of sasquatches could be traversing the region, according to Fox 9. Eyewitness accounts have varied from 6 to 10 feet tall, covered in dark fur, and moving upright on two legs.
One testimony described broad shoulders, "unusually long" arms, and even the sensation that the creature was so large it made the ground tremble. Neese recounts how he transformed from a sceptic into a believer following a close encounter during a military exercise in Oregon in 1993. Speaking to Fox News, Neese revealed that he and three fellow soldiers were watched by "three of these creatures" for approximately 25 seconds - an experience he claims altered "the entire course" of his life.
"I was not interested in the subject whatsoever, and growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I did, it's it it was part of the vernacular, but to me it was an urban legend, if you will.
"But all that changed for me in 1993 while conducting a military exercise in the Oregon Coast Range. I and three other soldiers were exposed to 3 of these, 3 of these, these creatures observing our exercises and those 25 seconds changed the entire course of my life," Neese explained.
Detailing what he witnessed, Neese stated that the figures did not appear "all that human" at close range, highlighting what he described as disproportionate silhouettes - particularly unusually long arms and leg proportions relative to a human torso.
"Well, not, not really all that human," Neese described. "They, what I had observed was that they were, their silhouette, if you will, the, the was completely disproportionate in terms of the arm length and even the, the length of the legs as it pertains to a human torso.
"Obviously, very large, the ones I saw, ranged between 7 to 9 ft in height. They do tend to have a more human-like face, but obviously just hair covered. Very large, very athletic," said Neese.
When pressed on why, in a world saturated with cameras, no definitive images have yet surfaced, Neese argued it is largely a question of probability. "They're just a very rare species, and so if you look at dispersing 1000, a million cameras out in the wild, it's just the odds of getting one to fall just right through that particular picture zone is very, very difficult," Neese explained.
Local investigator Mike Miller, co-founder of the Ohio Nightstalkers Bigfoot Research Group, has attributed the surge in sightings in the region to this year's brutal, storm-ravaged winter, proposing that flooded habitats could force the creature into unfamiliar territory and heighten the likelihood of encounters with humans.
Miller also claims to have captured howling sounds that he believes bear no resemblance to any "known animal in North America," asserting that certain screams registered higher than a baboon on a spectrograph.
A further report, shared by Bigfoot Society podcast host Jeremiah Byron, included a hiker's account that the creature rotated its shoulders rather than its neck - a detail Byron described as highly significant to dedicated Bigfoot researchers.
The same witness reported a powerful, musky odour, a deep grunt-like sound, and stated the encounter unfolded so rapidly and disturbingly that they retreated without venturing any closer. Despite the mounting number of sightings, no conclusive photograph has yet come to light.
