Two people have been killed in a shooting at a shopping centre in the United States, leaving a community described as 'peaceful' reeling in shock.
A man opened fire on five people following a meeting at a complex north of Dallas in Texas, according to police. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo confirmed that the suspect was acquainted with both of the victims.
"It was a known business relationship. We're still trying to work to identify what caused his actions," Arredondo said.
Seung Han Ho, 69, was taken into custody following a brief police pursuit approximately four miles away at a grocery store.
Officers attended a nearby apartment complex where Ho was registered as having recently resided, though neighbours stated they did not recognise the name.
A further three people sustained injuries in the shooting, though police confirmed all three remain in a stable condition.
Armed officers and FBI agents were among law enforcement gathering evidence in the car park in the aftermath of the incident.
Carrollton, situated 20 miles north of Dallas, is home to more than 4,000 residents of Korean descent, according to the US Census Bureau.
"We're shocked," said John Jun, who is actively involved in the Korean American community. "We're not immune to something like this happening, but we are very generally a peaceful community that works hard."
The city boasts numerous Korean churches, ranging from Baptist to Presbyterian, and over the past 20 years has flourished into a thriving Koreatown for the greater Dallas area. The area is anchored by major retailers such as H Mart, alongside scores of eateries offering everything from Korean fried chicken to shaved ice desserts.
