Kalita Maji, who comes from a very ordinary background, will now represent the people in the state assembly. Kalita Maji had been working as a domestic worker for the last two decades. She used to earn around Rs 2,500 a month by doing cleaning and utensil washing work in 3-4 houses. With this limited income he supported his family and continued his struggle for life despite difficult circumstances. His simplicity and grassroots connection earned him recognition at the local level, which later reached the political platform. Considering his social connections and grassroots work, BJP fielded him in the election field. In Ausgram seat, he defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Shyama Prasanna Lahore by a huge margin of 12,535 votes. Kalita Maji got a total of 1,07,692 votes, which shows her popularity and public trust.

Kalita Maji’s political journey has not been sudden. She has been associated with active politics for the last 10 years. He started working as a party worker at the booth level and also participated in Panchayat elections. She also got the ticket in the 2021 assembly elections, where she got about 41% of the votes, but she lost by about 12,000 votes. Despite the defeat, she did not give up her efforts and remained continuously active in the field. This time in the elections, despite limited resources, she campaigned from door to door on foot and established direct communication with the people. This grassroots connection became the biggest strength of his victory.
