Columbia, Ohio: Indian-origin entrepreneur and staunch ally of Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswami, has won the Republican primary election for the post of Governor of Ohio. According to unofficial results released on Tuesday, Ramaswamy has confirmed his place in the general election by defeating car designer and YouTube influencer Casey Putsch.
Got support from Trump and JD Vance
Former President Donald Trump and current Vice President JD Vance played an important role in Ramaswamy’s victory. Trump praised Ramaswamy on social media, calling him “young, strong and smart.” At the same time, Vice President JD Vance, who hails from Ohio, himself went to Cincinnati and voted in favor of Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy took full advantage of his identity and the void created in state politics after JD Vance became Vice President.
Elections will be focused on the policies of the Covid period
Ramaswamy will face Democrat Amy Acton, a former Ohio health director. Ramaswami said after his victory, “The real destination is the November election.” He has already started targeting Amy Acton, especially regarding the restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic and the decisions to postpone the elections.
On the other hand, Amy Acton in her speech talked about giving priority to ‘inflation’ and ‘working families’. Current Gov. Mike DeWine, who cannot run for re-election due to term limits, has endorsed Ramaswamy, though he also defended Ramaswamy’s criticism of Acton on COVID policies.
Trump’s dominance in Indiana: Rebels defeated
Along with Ohio, there was intense election activity in the neighboring state of Indiana also. Here, a tough challenge was faced by those 7 Republican senators who voted against Trump’s ‘redistricting plan’ last year.
