DC Not a 'Serious Cricket Team'? Ex-IND Star Blasts 'Genius' Management Amid Playoffs Race
MENSXP | May 6, 2026 2:40 PM CST

Now is not a good time to be Axar Patel. When the side posts over 260, the opposition chases it down and then in a crucial game, DC failed to post a total that would challenge CSK. Match 48 saw CSK crush DC by eight wickets with 15 balls left and that too in their own backyard.

DC Not Selecting Right Players

With the Playoffs race getting more intense with 22 league games left, every loss is a nail in a franchise’s coffin. DC’s questionable selection choices left former Team India player Dodda Ganesh flabbergasted. He asked if it was a ‘serious cricket team’ and questioned the ‘geniuses’ who opted to go with the likes Pathum Nissanka and bench impact players such as Prithvi Shaw, Abishek Porel and David Miller.

Dodda Ganesh Not Impressed

"There's so much Indian batting talent available in Delhi's camp. They can so easily open with Shaw/Rana/Porel along with KL, & have Miller in the middle order. Instead, the geniuses play Nissanka at the top & drop Miller. Tell me, how can this be a serious cricket team?" Ganesh wrote on X.

DC’s Shambolic Performance vs CSK

DC had collapsed to 69/5 but recovered to post a decent 155/7. Sadly, it was not enough and CSK won without breaking a sweat. Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi and Axar bowled their hearts out but shared just two wickets between them for 85 runs in 12 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was slammed for 34 runs in three overs while T Natarajan was hit for 39 in 2.3 overs.

Can DC Qualify for Playoffs?

DC still have a chance to finish in the top four but their chances are getting slimmer. With four games left, they are in 7th spot on the points table. If they win all four, they should go through but every loss now will impact their Playoffs chances. They have never won the title and played the final only once in 2020.

What Next for DC in IPL 2026?

Their next outing is vs KKR on May 8. KKR themselves are in 8th place with three wins and a no-result from nine matches and are aiming to climb the table. Meanwhile, CSK maintained their spot in 6th place and are posing as serious contenders for the Playoffs. We shall know who all make it by May 24. On May 31, the winners will be crowned.
