Aadhaar Act is required only for children under 6 years of age: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Monday observed that any proposal to restrict the issuance of new Aadhaar cards only to children below six years would require a proper legislative framework.
The court made the observation while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. The bench stated that such concerns should first be brought to the attention of the government and the relevant authorities.
The court said that this approach would allow the authorities to examine the issues and take appropriate action.
Without giving any final ruling on the demands raised in the petition, the court directed that the plea be treated as a representation submitted to the concerned departments of the government.
